The Reunion

So, it was my 10 year high school reunion this past weekend. I went home to Biggar on Friday night, met up with a couple of my girlfriends, and was off to the first function - and re-aquantaince at the local bar (what else). There were fewer people there than I expected, but that was ok. Most of the people that were not there had a *stick up their butt* about coming, so it was probably better they didn't show. I kinda thought that it was pretty silly to have such an attitude 10 years later - get over it - but that is some people for you. The evening was filled with socializing, drinking, and of course relocating to a locals for a house party. A lot of people didn't even recognize me or had to do a double take. I think that was a good thing, as most people said I looked awesome. That made me feel good.

It is interesting to watch and see how everyones' life takes different turns. Other than myself and a few of my girlfriends everyone has a brood of about 2 or 3, and a few were pregnant. So as you might imagine I got many lessons in birthing, breast feeding, child rearing, you name it. It was definitely a good source of birth control. That should last me.....well, for the rest of my life I think.

The Saturday functions revolved around golf mid-morning, an afternoon school tour, and a BBQ down in the valley. I even managed to squeeze some play time in there with my nephew.

The golfing was horrendous. I had only previously golfed once, and that was in high school. Melanie, Susan and I did a Texas Scramble and did alright. I really don't think that I will golf again if I can help it. It really isn't for me. However, it was fun with the girls cuz we weren't serious about it and it was all in fun.

The school tour was really good. It kinda made me feel a little jipped about my education now with all the sweet stuff the new school has. Our school was torn down a few years after I graduated. It must say, it was kinda a dump. And I believe it was kinda condemned while we were in school. But it was still our school, and I kind miss seeing it there.

The BBQ was a quiet affair, other than the 15 kids running around all over the place. I think people were pretty exhausted from the evening before and were takin' it a little easier on Sat. night. It was interesting to see all the kids and just how much they all looked like their parents. I went to school with most of these people from K-12 so I remember what they looked like long ago, and it is kinda creepy to see their children be the spitting image of them. The evening ended relatively early around 10.

As for Sunday I need to get in some quality time with the neice and nephews. I went over early to my brothers - around 10:30. Kevin was anxious to play Gem Quest again. We did attempt to play on Sat., but we were short on time. We got the game for Kevin on his birthday (April 7th), and he hadn't even opened it yet. He was waiting to be able to play it with me. So we got playing it again on Sunday with my brother. It is a pretty awesome game; pretty complicated in the beginning, but Kevin caught on right away. We can't wait to play it again.

I also got to see my new little nephew. Well, new as in 6 weeks, and little as in he is technically still a newborn, however he already weighs 13 lbs I think. Mackenzie, my neice was the little sweet devil she always is. We played a game of squirt the spray bottle into one anothers mouth. She is such a doll.

I headed back home mid-afternoon, dropped my gramma off at home and finished off my weekend with some relaxing CoH. All in all, a busy fun weekend.

Just for the record, I boycotted my ten-year high school reunion. I was pregnant with The Captain at the time, and was only interested in going if Amy came with me and pretended to be my lesbian lover. We had a story worked up about homemade artificial insemination (turkey baster and a male porn star), but in the end, Amy couldn't make it.

I didn't have a "stick up my butt" about not going; I just couldn't stand the majority of the people I went to high school with, and I'm sure the feeling was mutual.

Maybe it would have been different if I had graduated with fewer than 500 other people; maybe it would have been different if I had been friends with more than five of them (of whom one is dead.)

I've never really understood the appeal of high school reunions, anyway. High school was mostly a horrid experience for me, and I have no desire to repeat any of it. The day I graduated and walked out of that school forever was one of the best days of my life.

Guh.

But I'm glad you enjoyed yours. You clearly had a different high school experience than me. I'm just making a point for all of the people out there who might have a stick up their butt about not going to their reunions. Maybe I'll go to the 25th. Or 50th. Or never.

I remember that! I *so* wanted to go, but I had to go out of town for work, as I recall. Such a pity!

I feel the same way as Jill... the people I wanted to keep in touch with, I did. My 20th high school reunion will be next year, if there is one, and I have zero interest in that either. No stick, just no interest. :)

(but I am glad you had a good weekend, Neuba!)

I remember hearing about that story - that was awesome! :) It would have been great to hear what everyone thought of your lesbian lifestyle.

As for the stick up the butt people, their lame reason for not coming was that they never liked any of us in school anyways. Which I think is a crock. Then again I don't know how they felt about everyone else in school. As for me, I was good friends with a lot of the people that didn't come, and worked with them at my dad's grocery store.

With only 45 people in your graduating class you get to know everyone pretty well. Especially going to school for your entire life. I always thought that we were a pretty tight class - everyone got along and enjoyed one anothers company. I guess I was mistaken. Oh well.

As for future reunions, I just don't know if there will be any point in going. As for this one, I am glad I attended.

My rant was deflated as I read the first comment here. I don't need to say the same thing. Some friends from high school had driven a long way to be there so I had them over for brunch on the Sunday after they actually attended the reunion dance thingy on the Saturday. Apparently, all the "popular" girls wore the same outfit - blue jean skirts with black tank tops.

Thats funny - skirts & tank tops. Did a lot of them stay in Nipawin? Were they stuck in the 80's small town era or what?
