My Daily Escape

I think I have mentioned this before, but the bus system has worked out quite well with my new job. I am not even remotely close to downtown (where I work), and I can pretty much frolic in the fields if I wanted to, but the bus has provided me with good quality reading time.

My reading had become pretty non-existent over the last few years - I think I read, maybe, 3-4 books. See...I have a pretty over-active brain that likes to think and think and think, and if my mind is distracted with other issues, I just can't focus and escape into the fantasy world that books offer me. But with a clear head, happy heart and plenty of free time to read each day, I am back 'ater.

I quickly finished up the series by Kelly Armstrong that included Dime Store Magic, Industrial Magic and Haunted. I really enjoyed it, and it helped me realize how much I missed reading. So, I was on a mission to continue reading, yet my own personal collection was stale. So, after remembering the cool little book community, Shelfari that r:tAG invited me to last summer, I remembered there were a number of books on his shelf that I wanted to read. So I wrote them down and headed off to the book store about 3 weeks back. I am currently reading American Gods by Neil Gaiman. I wouldn't say I completely love it, but I am definitely intrigued by the story and the writing. And I am looking forward to reading The Sandman series which Mr. J brought me this past week during his Easter visit. I also wouldn't mind reading Stardust, as I enjoyed the movie immensely.

I hope you end up liking "American Gods" - I thought it was pretty good.

For a bit lighter Gaiman story check into "Neverwhere". It's about a secret world existing under the streets of London. Quite good - BBC even did a TV treatment of it.

Thanks r:tAG, I'll definitely check it out.

I also picked up Gaiman's Smoke and Mirrors. I am really liking many of the short stories and illusions.

Neverwhere pissed me off. It's really really good though. Smoke and Mirrors wasn't my favorite by any stretch.

This may seem like an odd question, but you've read "Good Omens" yes?

Bne: I haven't read "Good Omens"? Should I? I am assuming it is good if you are asking me about it.

Yes...yes you should. Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett team up.

It's about the best book ever.
