Homeless Connect

I spent the day helping those less fortunate than myself.

My sweetie's organization along with Canadian Mental Health Association led the first of many October homeless initiatives, Homeless Connect.

He's been working extremely hard over the past number of weeks, working many extra hours, staying up late, and giving up his weekends...all for work. But more importantly, for those Edmontonians who are homeless and/or without housing. He's got such a big heart, and is so great with people in general.

We spent the day conducting surveys with individuals who wanted to provide a bit more detail on their family make-up, housing situation, income (or lack thereof) and recently accessed support services. It's amazing how open and honest people are, when they are truely concerned about their situation and want so desperately to change it.

There were a number of services/organizations participating to assist those in attendance: Shaw Conference Centre, Alberta Health, regional mental health organizations, free haircuts, medical services, shelters, coffee & muffins, hot lunch, clothing vouchers, backpacks, and much, much more.

It feels good to to know I was able to help out and support those in need. I feel part of the community...I feel like I am making a difference (even if small)...and I am proud of the movements Homeward Trust and other agencies are making towards this social issue.

It's a feel good day.
