a tough start

So, I have had the book for over a week now. I picked it up from the library cuz every book place was out. I am kinda glad that I didn't buy. Not to say that the book is bad, cuz I don't know if it is bad. All I know is that I am having a very difficult time reading it.

The first time I started it I got all the way to page 33, but I didn't know what was going on, so I put it down. I contemplated picking it up because I do need to read it for the book club, however because I wasn't immediately drawn into the book I have avoided it.
[you see, I kinda am like that with most books I read. If it doesn't peak my interest almost immediately, I am bored with it. There has to be something about any book I am reading that makes me want to read more - to find out what is gonna happen next. I have a hard time reading things just for *analytical* purposes.]

Just the other night I thought I would give it another try. I made sure that I was REALLY READING it, not just skimming. I was focused (I think) and trying to pay attention to the setting and character introduction. I got to page 11 - then I put it down, again! I seemed to get a little more about what the book was talking about, however the disinterest was still there.

I hope that I can do it. I have to do it. Otherwise I will be disappointing the book club. I have adopted a lazy attitude about the book, and definitely need to make MORE of an effort.

So in high school, in Grade 12, I took a special english course - history of world literature or something. One of the books we read was Tess of the d'Urbervilles. I have yet to meet someone who actually finished it. What a terrible book.
