On the Hunt

A guerilla attack is the plan. K, Ulka, and Josephine head out from the Kaer to hunt down and kill the mayor.

Not long after leaving the Kaer, we encounter a group of pirates. They are quickly subdued, but alas, K and Josephine have been harmed. We search the jungle for a resting spot where Josephine can heal K and herself. Josephine, distraught from the fight ends up during more harm than good with the fire healing, leaving herself in too weak to move forward. The group returns to the Kaer.

Days later, the group heads out once again along the same path. We reach an area where the earth looks plagued by death itself. No vegetation, no animals, just dry, cracked, dead earth. As if the Horrors themselves have been destroying an corrupting the area. We notice footprints - they must be the mayors. We follow the tracks.

We notice from a distance a ship. Looks like pirates, perhaps the mayor? The groups decides to start a fire near the shore, to help light some nearby rock in which to throw at the ship. However, the ship does not get close enough before the darkness sets in, and the group is forced to retreat into the jungle. Ulka manages to locate a safe den where we can rest and hide for the night.

At dawn we return to the shore where we made the fire, only to find 4 pirates surrounding the fire. They have been ripped to shreds! It appears from claws and the rocks that we were going to use on them. There are more! We see 4 pirates floating in the water, K goes to investigate. Before K gets a good look at the pirates floating in the water, one grabs hold of his ankle. The rest become animated and a battle begins. The group questions their ability - 'the zombies in the tunnels almost killed us.' The group needs not doubt their ability, they make short work of the cadaver men.

We return to the den to rest. A few hours later, Ulka checks to make sure it is safe. She notices tracks around the den and hears voices. 'They are close', she says. Everyone can sense the mayor - 'he is close.' The group retreats back into the den and hides. Worms and magnets begin to surface from the ground. We become still with fear. We wait, and wait, and wait, til the bugs disappear. Hours later, Ulka sticks her head outside the den - 'He is powerful against us.' 'He can paralyze us with fear.' We follow the tracks to the river - 'the ship is gone.' We continue along the river patrolling.

The group closes in on a camp. 'It sounds like a civil war inside the palisade.' We stay back, watching the fight. The battle ends, some falling and others lead away in chains. We notice the mayor retreat and disappear into a doorway.

'This is our chance!', says Josephine.

Ulka, K, and Josephine move towards the doorway. Josephine enchants K's spear with fire before he charges in. Josephine shoots Earth Darts, hitting the mayor. The mayor comes after Josephine, burning her. K fights back, knocking the mayor to the ground. Ulka leaps in, ripping at him with her claw. For a final blow, K penetrates the mayors head with his spear, only to have small creature leap from the mayor's head onto K's. The creature begins to burrow itself into K's head. Josephine tries to help, by hitting the small creature, but hurts K instead. It continues to burrow deeper and deeper into K's head. Ulka grabs hold of it, and so does K. K is finally able to get it off. He throws it into the air, sending his spear right through it.

After the death of the Horror, the appearance of the pirates begins to change. They have aged - dramatically. The slaves begin to regain control of their thoughts and actions, and realize they can fight back. They notice us and begin to call for help. They have been released from their hold. The are now free.

Ulka, Josephine and K return to the Kaer to claim victory in defeating the mayor.
