The task of investigating as much of the area around the Kaer has been granted to the group by the Council. Some of the peoples of the Kaer are interested in various flora and fauna in the area. The more that is known of the earth above the better understanding there will be of the happenings on the surface. There is a tower nearby, and the group has set out to investigate.
Ulka, K, and Josephine reach the tower and immediately notice the lack of vegetation in the area. There are 25 obelisks surrounding the tower. Ulka notices a dip in the earth by the tower and begins to dig away at the dirt - she uncovers a scroll. Josephine determines it is a small part of a larger ritual. The group continues to search, though nothing else is discovered. We retreat to a cave for the night.
We are awoken in the night - Savages!!! They attack. We come back with full force and eliminate their shaman. His followers flee.
'These savages are connected to the tower some how.' We discover a scroll on the shaman. It is examined by Josephine, and is repulsed and left shaken by what she reads - Nethermancer script! K sleeps for the remainder of the night, and Ulka stays up with a distraught Josephine.
The morning finds them at a village. They stay in the background watching the "new" shaman become branded. A chilling circle envelops him.
The group retreats back to the tower for further investigation. 'We need to find out more about these people.' Josephine flys to the top of the tower. She notices a small opening, just big enough for her. She attempts to crawl into the opening, however finds the top closing in on her. She quickly escapes unharmed. The group continues to dig at the earth where the previous scroll was located. Josephine finds some armour, completely intact. They remove the armour from the ground, and retire to the cave.
We return to the tower that night to find the savages performing their rituals. It occurs to the group that they were wrong in exhuming the savages artifacts and agrees to put them all back. We gather up everything, put it in the center of the tower area and leave by the river.
On the way home we are confronted by the "new" shaman and some followers. The shaman speaks, 'There is a creature in the tower, it died there. The creature helped us survive for many years. It taught us magic, and protected us from other evil creatures.' We tell him about ourselves, our situation and the Kaer. The shaman is unaware, 'this is all unfamiliar to me. I don't understand.' We leave each other peacefully, and continue on our way back to the Kaer.
Upon arrival at the Kaer, we immediately seek counsel with the lone Nethermancer of the Kaer. Her insight is limited. We request her company upon return to the savages village - she declines, though agrees to meet with anyone we should return with. We arrange an exchange. We leave shortly after returning, accompanied by 2 Kaer villages who will teach the savages the Book of Tomorrow. The savages, in return, allow 2 of their villagers to return with us to the Kaer, so that the Nethermancer may speak with them.
