Even if I am only 'OK.'
I subbed-in for Chris at curling on Sunday night. Sky, Ril, and I won by default (I think) cuz the other team only had 2 people. We played 4 ends anyways. But I don't think I made one shot.
Monday night I played floor hockey for the first time in a month, and it was awesome. Not that I played awesome (I did get an assist), it was just good to get back at it. I really like floor hockey. I am feeling a little stiff today, but that is ok.
Today, the Commerce Grad Students won their second victory in volleyball. We put in a team for the campus rec league 3 weeks ago, and have won the last 2 games. We rock!
Seems as though my sporting activities are getting better as I progress through the week. The activities are done for the week, unless you count reading, analyzing, and writing activities. And I am not sure how much better I can get at those. I think I might eventually get worse.
I am REALLY looking forward to the break.

Exciting Financial News
I am sure most of you have heard me complain about being a little short on the money these days. For starters, I am cheap. Secondly, I am going to school and paying a hefty price for it. So that doesn't leave a lot of disposable income (pretty much none) to play with. Plus, a stringent budget has been guiding most of our financial decisions. Mostly so that we can survive this year of school, and also so that we don't have a 'boatload' of debt come September.
As you may know there have been some problems/issues with the students in the international specialization. I had some troubles back in the fall that I sorted out, but a number of other students have been having issues with their projects and their advisor (the one I dumped, because he wasn't doing anything). Our MBA program director, along with MBA faculty have come up with a number of solutions for those students having difficulty. Great! Though it doesn't really impact me. And, due to some confusion on the additional 4k we each had to pay for our international intership experience, each student in the intern'tl specialization is now receiving a 2k stipend. Sweet! So, now I technically only have to pay an additional 2k for my intership to Oxford.
I also received a letter yesterday awarding me the Jack & Clara Milavsky Grad Assistance Fund. I was one of 2 receipents, and I received 1k. That makes me happy, and a little less worried about my financial situation.
Unexpected windfalls are nice!

Oxford Bound
Well, it looks like my research project is falling into place. Because of my international specialization, I get to do a project for a company outside of the country (US doesn't count). Earlier in the school year I was having some difficulty with the chair of the international specialization. I didn't think I was going to get the experience I had expected out of the international research project and the program, so I ended up with the chair from the bioTechnology Management specialization. I also ended up switching some of my classes, as it looked like my project would be in the bioTech field. Sure enough it was. Looks like I will be going to Oxford.
I am going to be working with PharmaVentures. They are located at the Oxford Science Park, which is just outside of Oxford University, much like our Innovation Place. I am pretty damn excited. I am not sure excited captures how I really feel. In Awe....that sounds better. It is going to be a fantastic opportunity. I will be able to say, "I did my research for my MBA in Oxford." Now that is pretty cool.
My research project takes place in the 3rd term, over the months of June and July. It looks like I will be going near the beginning of June and staying for about 4-5 weeks.
It is going to be so awesome!

My Avatar
Everyone is doing it, so why don't I.
I am not too impressed with the hair selection. Having short hair is obviously not that common since they had 2 selections and both of them are pretty ugly.
So here is my ugly-haired avator.

Although, I agree with cenobyte's comment that it is a very good 'time-wasting website.'

Something Different
Tonight Jeff & I decided to go out and do something different. We headed out to World's Best Commercials at the Broadway Theatre with Paul (friend from school) and his girlfriend.
There were some pretty good/funny commercials, like the one where the car turned into a transformer and danced (Jeff liked that one), and the white guy who gets a arm transplant from a Japanese guy and the hand of the arm holds a camera, and he keeps taking pictures (my fave). Ha! I can't even remember what the commercial was for. There were a number of serious ones regarding child welfare, aids awareness, and animal rights that were also pretty good.
It was a good time with good company.

Happy 29th
In the entire history of *me*, I believe this is the first birthday where it has not been -40 outside. Let this day go down in history.
So nice, not to have a freezing cold day for my special day. Now only if I didn't have all this stupid homework to do. Argh!

Interesting Tidbit
It is only within the last 3 years that we have been classified as a "Free" country.
According to the 2006 Index of Economic Freedom, we are ranked 12th and have a score of 1.85. This is the lowest score Canada has in the last 11 years.
Prior to 2006, Canada's score was greater than 2, classifying Canada as "Mostly Free".
When I first stumbled upon this revelation I was somewhat distrubed, spawning my interest to investigate further. Though my text wasn't current, it wasn't that far off consider this is the first year it has received the title of "Free".
Busy Weekend
The weekend isn't even over yet, I am feeling overwhelmed about the amount of stuff I have accomplished and have yet to accomplish.
My parents stayed with us Friday night, as they were leaving for their Mexican (not sure where) early Saturday morning. I had the pleasure of driving them to the airport at 4am.
It was then back home to try and get some more sleep before my nephews came at 9:30 am. Jeff & I entertained Zachary (9 months), and Kevin (8 1/2 yrs) til mid-afternoon. Zachary was a little cranky, and insisted on being everywhere, so he needed a lot of attention. As for Kevin, he pretty much loves watching Jeff or I play computer. So, Kevin watch Jeff play WoW for the morning, and then watched me play Ember Thorn (my new controller) on CoH.
Aside: The new Saturday afternoon CoH team rocked. We racked up almost 20k in prestige.
After supper at the in-laws, Jeff went off to Warhammer, while I got a nice visit in with the newly engaged best friend and the fiance at the Spadina Freehouse.
Today has been jammed pack full of homework. I just spent the last 4 hours finishing up an analysis of the major economic sectors of the United Arab Emirates. After a much needed break I am going to tackle the readings for Research Methods and International Markets. Now that I no longer have to sub-in for her at curling(due to it being cancelled), I don't feel as pressured to get all my work done.

Lecturing
Tomorrow our group gets to lecture for our International Markets class. It should be good. I have enjoyed reading up on the UN, and The World Bank. I am not too worried about it. Then again, I taught for 3 years at Federated, so that is likely why I feel pretty confident.
The first week of school has been pretty intensive. Mostly due to the fact that this International Markets class is only 6 weeks long. We meet twice a week for 3 hours, and have tons of readings. This lecture is our first assignment, and it is only the 3rd class. The 2nd group assignment is due on Jan. 20th and requires us to do a business enviromental analysis on a country (not one of the 20 richest countries). Our group agreed on researching United Arab Emirates. So much work, gotta get started right away on that. Plus, our groups also have to prepare discussions and presentations on assigned business articles for each class. And this is only one class. However, it is over on Feb. 10th.
As of today I have attended most of the classes which I am taking this semester: Research Methods, bioTechnology Management, Management Information Systems, and International Markets. My class that compliments my major research project, Readings in International Business, does not start til Feb. 6th. This class looks at doing some preliminary research/reading on the company I will be doing my project for, and the country where the company is located.
It is going to be a busy semester. Hopefully interesting and stimulating.

Narnia
Last night, Jeff & I went to see The Chronicles of Narnia. Wonderful! Fantastic! Amazing!
I really enjoyed how they were able to capture the innocence, and naivity of children. The movie was a good view into the mind of a child. Lucy's exploration, complete acceptance of the things around her, truth, honesty, and friendship were all excellent replications of a young child. I was with her all through the movie, wishing for her to suceed. And wishing that everything she believed in would come true. I definitely lost myself in the movie. Imagination is a wonderfull thing.
The beavers....what can I say about the beavers. They were sweet, warm, and cute. (heh) I even got teary when they were being cute, and when they were in danger.
The battle scene near the end - AWESOME! I couldn't help saying to Jeff, "ahh, this is just like Heroes of Might & Magic." There were minotaurs, cyclops, griffins, centaurs, phoenixes....ah it was amazing. It was like live action Heroes. So awesome. (I kinda feel like T-ass, with all the awesomeness that is occuring here)

Mmmmmm
I took my first crack at making potato soup tonight, and I think that it turned out well. It was tasty, and both Jeff & I enjoyed it.
The first time I tasted this soup was at his & her place sometime last winter (I believe) when I was in Regina for work. It was wonderful then, and it was even better when she made it here while her & the family stayed with us before Christmas. I was in the mood for it again, so I asked for the 'once-a-week' recipe.
The detailed directions were awesome...though I think I cut up my potatoes too small, as they were cooked in about 10 minutes. They were a little mushy, but the soup was still very tasty. And the sausage that I added was awesome!
I am not too worried that it didn't turn out perfect. It was the first attempt. Next time will be better. That is how a cook becomes a good cook - by learning from the time before.

Back to the old template til I figure out what happened with my new one.
All was fine...not sure what happened!?! I checked it today, and none of my posts appeared, and my achives list was all buggered up. Weird, as I didn't change anything in my template.
I hope I can fix the problem...until then, it will be the old style.
UPDATE: 1:13pm Nevermind. Got it fixed.

Missed Out
The plan for today was Earthdawn this afternoon, followed up with some floor hockey over at the Cosmo Civic Centre. Alsa, this stupid cough I have had for the past couple of days turned into a full on chest cold. Yuck!
I headed out to the Medi Clinic as soon as I woke up, and had the pleasure of sitting there for and hour before I got to see anyone. Of course the doctor told me, 'you have a bad cold. Other than Vitamin C, Cold FX, Chicken Noodle Soup...there isn't much I can do for you other than give you this cold suppressant.' This is the usually spiel. I wasn't given antibiotics, but I was given a prescribed cold suppressant, which is more than I usually get. However, the cold suppressant has codiene in it, so I can't operated any vehicles, and shouldn't consume any liquor. And I am ok with that. I hadn't planned on doing any drinking or driving over the next couple days anyways. Though it really sucks to feel like shit.
The day has been fairly lazy with some CoH, sleeping, and giving WoW another try. I had Jeff help me out this time to calm my frustration. It did help to have someone guide me through the game. And Rob ended up making a undead character as well shortly after started. So, we were able to team up together and work through the game. I don't think I have the same frustration as I did when I tried it last year, but I still don't think it is my kinda game. Perhaps I am just too partial to CoH. That could be the case.

Happy New Year!
Once again Jeff & I hosted our annual New Year's Eve Party. This year was actually year number 10. I have been in Saskatoon for 10 years, and have had a party every year. It is a good tradition.
The day started off with making some jello shooters for the party. Once they were in the fridge we began the Trailer Park Boys drinking game. Brennan, Laura, Jeff & I watched about 5 episodes over the course of 2 1/2 hours, and that was plenty. I think we all made a smart choice to stop around 6:30, so that we could try to be coherent once the other guests started to arrive. I didn't make myself another drink for the rest of the night, though I had plenty of jello shooters.
Alan, our first guest, arrived shortly after 7, and it wasn't much longer after he arrived before we were playing Dutch Blitz. I remember playing it once before over at the Temperance house and having a lot of fun with it, so I was gungho at playing again. We really should have had Alan use a handicap, as he whooped Carla, Laura, and myself each game. I don't think I have sworn that much since our frineds were here from Edmonton. I left the table pretty frustrated.
The rest of the evening was pretty much full of visiting, and Settlers of Catan. I wasn't really too interested in playing, but those who were quite familiar with the game taught her how to play...and it wasn't long before she was hooked. I think they played 3 games, and she still wanted to play more. She convinced Rob & I to play. It wasn't too bad of a game. It probably would have been better if I wasn't so tired and full of jello.
There wasn't too much drinking happening, so the jello shooters were a little much. There was a lot left over, and I was beginning to wonder what I would do with them. Since Rob had arrived late, he needed to catch up. I challenged him to polishing off the jello shooters with me. Since he was behind, I drank one for each of his 2. Duncan was nice enough to help out, since I think there was about 28 shooters left. So much jello......not sure if I want to do that again. They all went straight to my head.
Even though we just saw some of our ex-Saskatoonian friends, I think I was just a little bit sad, as this was the first time Amy, Randy and Bne were not at the party.
Check out party pictures here. Suprisingly, there a quite a few pictures of myself. Odd, as I am usually the picture taker, but last night a few others were having fun playing around with the camera.
