It is almost time for me to fly away. It has been a hectic week so far. I have been running around all week trying to get ready for my trip. On top of that I had a presentation today in class and my grad photos, it's our anniversary tomorrow, I have my final on Friday, and a farewell party to attend. Plus, I still need to pack.
We leave Sunday night and arrive Monday afternoon in London. However, by the time we reach our apartment it be 6:00pm on Monday. It is a good thing Chad & I don't have to be at work until Wednesday. Tuesday should give us enough time to rest, figure out transit, buy groceries and get familiar with the area.
I have been reading a Great Britian travel book I purchased some weeks ago, and there is already a million things I want to do and see. I have a feeling I am going to like it there - A LOT - especially all the medieval architecture. Squeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!

Good times; perhaps too good
Boy, do I miss going out and dancing. It has been ages since I've 'shakin' it' at the bar.
Last night, a friend from school hosted a BBQ party. Another great evening with school friends. I don't quite remember the last time I was that drunk. I am sure it has been several years. The drinking started around 5pm, and finished up at the Scuz (The Sutherland Bar) around 2:00 am. I must admit that the bar was pretty pathetic, but it always was. However, I enjoyed myself by focusing on the music and dancing.
Good times were had by all. The night is a little hazy, but there was ample beer drinking, some country dancing, bocce ball, and plenty of drunken antics. Carla, Chad, and I are going to have a blast in the UK.
I just wish I didn't feel so shitty today.

Broad Street
Today's pic looks like a 'must see' when I am in Oxford.
Famous for its bookshops, Broad Street was originally the site of a deep town ditch outside the city wall where the Protestant Bishops Latimer, Ridley and Cramner were burned at the stake. A cross in the road outside Balliol marks the spot where they died in 1555 and 1556 for rejecting the doctrine of the catholic church. In the 13th century, Broad Street was used for horse trading but the advent of many beautiful buildings has since given it a distinguished air. Among these buildings are: Balliol College, founded in the 1260's by John De Balliol as a penance for insulting the Bishop of Durham. Trinity College, built on the site of an early college that educated the monks of Durham. Exeter College, founded in 1314 by the Bishop of Exeter, a prominent courtier who was murdered by enemies of the king. The Sheldonian Theatre, a marvellous classical building that opened in 1669 and was the first large scale work of Sir Christopher Wren, who modelled it on the Roman theatre of Marcellus. The Museum of the History of Science, and Blackwell's Bookshop, which was opened in 1879 by Benjamin Blackwell, founder of the now world famous family business. Submitted by: PicturesOfEngland ©

Long, Long Weekend
I have tried to be productive this weekend, I really have. However, I did not get as many things done as I would have liked. Mostly stuff to help me prepare for my trip. I didn't have the car this weekend, so a lot of the things I had planned weren't feasible to do.
I did get my research sample size narrowed down, and set off to PharmaVentures. I did my international on-line travel tests that I was required to do, and I have been working on a group assignment that is due tomorrow in class. In fact, Chad & I hope to finish it up today.
Other than that, too many sleepless nights and World of Warcraft was my weekend.
Jeff is home today from Calgary. I am sure he had a great visit with Amy & Randy. I SO wanted to go, but I couldn't exactly leave my class assignment with my partner, that just wouldn't be fair.
It looks like another beautiful day. I hope I this group assignment doesn't take up the whole day.

Off for review
I managed to put in a full days work into my research paper on Monday. My goal was to get in a draft to my supervisors before I leave for Oxford, and I did.
Now, I have time to focus on my new Biotech class, and establish my research sample. I have a fair amount of reading to do, assignments to work on, and some getting reading for my trip.

Busy Weekend
The weekend flew by much to fast.
Friday, Jeff & I went over to his parents for an early Mother's Day BBQ. Later that night, we were off to Boston Pizza to socialize with friends.
Saturday involved completing most of my Leadership take-home final exam. Then it was off to Suzi's to celebrate her 30th birthday. It was fabulous!
Sunday, it was off to Biggar to watch my neice in her first dance recital. She was nineth in the program, but by the 2nd dance I was almost in tears. It was very nostalgic for me. I haven't been to a recital in 11 years, and it was my own. I didn't realize how much I missed dance, especially Tap, until I watched the performances. It was a fantastic way to spend my Sunday afternoon. And my neice, she was SO CUTE. Jeff & I were smiling ear to ear - such proud aunt & uncle we are. Jeff even liked the rest of the program. It was his first time at a dance recital/perfomance of any kind. I do try to slip in some culture every now and again. After the recital we had a nice Mother's Day dinner, and then it was back home.
After that whirlwind of weekend activities, it is time to get back to school work. However, I am going to bask in the sun while I do it.

So cool
This research project and intern position with PharmaVentures is turning out to be the opportunity of a life time. I think I have said that before, but I am more sure after today.
I got news this afternoon from the Business Development Manager that they would like Chad (the other student I am going with) & I to write an article summarizing our research results. This article will be published in this industry review publication. And, of course, we would be credited with the article and the research results.
I am pretty blown away.
Only 3 weeks to go, and starting to count down the days. Carla, another schoolmate, will be staying with Chad & I, however she is working for a different company that is based out of Regina. Our accomodations are booked and it looks great. We ended up closer to Oxford city center, than the Oxford Science Park, but being closer to the nightlife probably has its advantages.
PharmaVentures is looking forward to our arrival, and has already set up our workstations. They have also arranged for us to work with the business analysts. They are currently in the process of hiring business analysts, and are looking to see what kind of initiatve we show. Essentially, it is going to be a 5-week job interview.
I have been progressing nicely on my project, and have confidence that it will be mostly done before I go. Progress is slow, but thorough. I would rather get little bits done over the next 3 weeks than complete it in a couple sessions. This way it stays fresh in my mind.

A Change was in order
Time for a change - again.
In anticipation of my upcoming trip to Oxford, I have decided to change the look of my journal. I have found an excellent site that hosts pictures of the UK, and plan on changing my heading picture often.
The original template is from Pannasmontata, however it is barely recognizable. I have been playing around with this template for sometime now, and finally tweaked it today. I am pretty picky with colours and fonts, so to find something I actually liked was quite a process.

Time to Buckle Down
Alrighty...
I must admit that I haven't been doing as much work as I could since I got back from my school break. And I blame it on the weather. Damn you nice weather.
I have been doing some work, but has been minimal and primarily for my Leadership class. I really need to get back to work on my project, not because I should, but because I have to. If I don't have my methodolody down pat before I go, I am in big trouble. Although I am way ahead of all my schoolmates, because of my hardwork back in Feb. and March, I really need to start taking pointers from her. Thanks for the inspiration.
My research proposal (when it is finish) should include:
I currently have my literature review complete (minus a few alterations), and have started on my methodolody (which I am working on today) and my interview questions. I have 4 weeks to go. Initially I was worried, but I am not so much anymore. However, that may change as I proceed. The intro, methodology, and interview questions will take some time, however these sections are derived from my current understanding of the literature. The literature review was the most difficult, because I was summarizing other people's thoughts into a cohesive section. The rest of the paper is pretty much my interpretation, and how I plan on studying the phenomenon. I am interested in what I am doing, I just haven't been in the mood lately, I guess.
Anywho, I have already wasted enough time on this post, and now, it is time to get going to the airport. Jeff arrives home shortly.

My research proposal (when it is finish) should include:
- Introduction: Here I need to discuss the practical relevant and academic relevance of the issue.
- Literature Review: Summarize research pertaining to my issue.
- Methodolody: Outline my data collection tools and explain why I choose it, and the strengths and weaknesses of it.
- Results: Delineate my results.
- Discussion & Conclusions: Summarize findings and make future research recommendations.
- Appendices: Interview questions and transcribed interview notes.

Recently Absent
I thought I would check in, as it has been sometime now since my last post. I have been pretty busy over the past couple of weeks. A lot busier than I expected. So here is a recap:
School:
My Leadership class is going very well. Although it is not much different than the undergrad class I took, my learning has changed because of new experiences. The 'learning log' assignment has been a great way for me to articulate my thoughts and ideas about leadership. And our group project has us analyzing the leadership in either Patch Adams or One Flew Over the Cuckcoo's Nest. I did the One Flew Over the Cuckcoo's Nest in my undergrad class, so our group choose Patch Adams. Plus, it is a great movie.
Only one more week of Leadership, and then I am onto my Biotech Commercialization class. And after that, I will be off to Oxford for 5 weeks. I can't wait - 4 weeks until I take off.
I also have another class that I have been taking, recently I have been attempting to work on my research project. However, that hasn't got the bulk of my attention, and it needs it. Also, I have attended a couple of professional training and development sessions and a networking function over the past couple weeks. School has been pretty busy - so busy that the exercise routine is starting to suffer.
Life:
I have been enjoying the nice weather we have been having. Except, of course, the little bit of snow and cold we had this past week. But things are looking up, it is suppose to be 20 degrees today, and 25 degrees tomorrow. I am looking forward to it.
Jeff and I have been trying to get the yard cleaned up, however it has been a slow process. It appears to be at the bottom of the priority list right now. I am sure it will get done - eventually. I may have to bribe Brennan with beer and supper again. We did get a fair amount of yard work done that day.
Regardless of the amount of yard work being done, the blooming flowers look awesome.
Even with the excercise regimen going out the window, I have tried to stay somewhat active by riding my bike to school.
As for this weekend, I hope to accomplish a lot on my group project and my research project. With Jeff off to Vancouver for Kevin's wedding, I will either get a lot of school work done or play too much computer and then feel guilty. Let's hope I do a even amount of both. That's fair.
Let's see if I can do a better job of posting over the next few weeks.
